Medical Board Registration

In order to obtain a work visa in Australia, a medical practitioner must first obtain initial or in principle approval of registration with an Australian Medical Board or Council.

Each State and Territory Medical Board or Council has its own application process; however they all have the same basic requirements.

The medical practitioner must show evidence of relevant medical training, completion of internship, relevant experience with the position on offer, certificate of good standing with previous registering bodies and identification.

New legislation will also see the following being gradually introduced:

  • All candidates will have their medical qualifications verified by an independent body
  • A screening examination based on the AMC MCQ
  • Pre-employment Structured Clinical Interview by an AMC accredited provider

The recruitment team at Tuggerah Medical Practice understands this process well and will guide you through, providing you with the relevant information and application forms.

Please note: The Australian State and Territory Medical Boards are responsible for the registration of all medical practitioners. The decision to grant medical registration is entirely the decision of the State and Medical Board.
